Truman doctrine
The Truman Doctrine was a policy that President Harry Truman introduced to United States Congress on March 12, 1947. The policy made clear that the United States would resist Soviet expansion. Greece was in a civil war between the government and communists, and Turkey was under pressure from the Soviet Union. Truman would send economic aid and military to Greece and Turkey so they would not fall under Soviet Russia’s influence. $400,000,000 American dollars were sent to them. Its purpose was to limit communism to areas already under Soviet control and would guide U.S. policy during the Cold War.
The effect of this would be that the United States would guide the United States for decades.
