THE COLLAPSE OF THE SOVIET UNION
The Soviet Union collapsed because of many reasons. Some long term causes was low output of crops and consumer goods, the Cold War led to high military spending, ethnic and nationalist movements were started, and denial of natural rights and freedoms. Some short term causes was the War in Afghanistan, food and fuel shortages, demonstrations in the Baltic States, and Gorbachev's reforms.
